OUDTSHOORN NEWS - A crisp Karoo winter evening at Red Rock Raceway turned red-hot with high-octane racing action as thousands of fans braved the chill to witness a night of motorsport mayhem that truly embodied the phrase: "Rubbing is racing."
From the early heats to the late-night finals, the track played host to a variety of classes including 1660 Modifieds, 1600 Saloons, V8 American Saloons, 2.1s, Midgets, Hotrods, Ninja Rods and more.
Trackside highlights:
Several red flags were waved throughout the night as hard contact and heavy impacts brought abrupt ends to several races. Race-ending damage affected cars across multiple classes.
One of the night's most talked-about moments came in the Hotrods final, when a driver launched an ambitious outside move on lap 8, squeezing past two rivals into the first turn. The crowd roared in response. Similarly, in the 1660 finals, shoulder-to-shoulder duels kept fans on the edge of their seats.
In the Heavy Metals heat 3, a lead battle escalated into chaos. Contact between front-runners not once, but twice ended the race for three of the four cars involved. The crowd winced and then applauded the sheer intensity of the contest.
