OUDTSHOORN NUUS - Twee fietsryers van Nederland, wat tans vanaf Kaapstad na Kairo onderweg is, is vol lof vir die gasvryheid van Suid-Afrikaners.
Die Oudtshoorn Courant het op 8 Maart oor Elbert en Syneke Achterstraat se fietstoer berig toe hulle in De Rust 'n ruskans geneem het.
Die twee het verlede week in Kimberley aangekom en laat weet dat hulle goed op dreef is met hulle tog van meer as 7 000 km.
In 'n e-pos het Elbert verlede week laat weet dat die hulpvaardigheid en gasvryheid van mense wat hulle op hulle roete ervaar het, ongelooflik is.
Hy sê onder andere die volgende oor Suid-Afrikaners: "Your people's attitude and approach to one another reminds me of the good old days of my childhood when these habits existed in our country (Holland) in abundance but, evaporated over time as our numbers rose from 5 to 17 million, and we became more effluent and individualistic. Whatever your problems are - and I understand you have a few items of worry - your culture in regard to strangers is a great one, which you should cherish."
