CRICKET NEWS - The C-team of Union Stars will join the A-team of this Oudtshoorn-based club in the premier league competition next season after they defeated Telesto Ramblers (from Rosemoore in George) by 36 runs in the Promotion League Division one final that was played at the Six Gun Grill Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn on Sunday.
Union Stars displayed a solid batting performance in their allotted 50 overs when they posted 196/6 thanks to meaningful contributions with the bat by Shaun-Dee Meyer (36), Reagon Botha (25), Maurits Pretorius (47) and Jayvier Philander (33).
For Ramblers Quinton Davids (2/32) and Arthur Lottering (2/41) each bagged two wickets.
Ramblers, in their run chase at 89/3 after 32 overs, still sniffed a chance for victory, but they lost wickets at regular intervals.
They required 80 from the last ten overs and after threatening innings by Fabian Campher who hit 46 (from 57 balls; 7x4) they were eventually dismissed in the penultimate over for 160.
