OUDTSHOORN CRICKET NEWS - The SWD cricket team ended their campaign for the 2019/20 season on a high after a hard-fought, 30-runs victory in a low-scoring encounter in the Cricket SA Provincial One Day competition against Easterns at Willowmoore Park in Benoni.
The victory was a sweet revenge after SWD suffered massive innings and 153-runs defeat in the three-day match.
In the one-day match, SWD made a sound start with an opening stand of 45 in 10,5 overs between Neil Hornbuckle (22) and Jean du Plessis (18), but the middle order again collapsed as the visitors were bowled out for a modest 148 after 37,2 overs.
Despite a half-century by Wesley Coulentianos (59; 93 balls, 5x4) the SWD bowling attack displayed a great fight to dismiss Easterns for 118 runs. Herschell America (3/26), Renaldo Meyer (2/23), Neil Hornbuckle (3/23) and Ndumiso Mvelase (2/11) were the top wicket takers for SWD.
SWD has ended third (21 points) in Pool B of the limited over competition.
