SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - South Western Districts Cricket recently announced the squad and contracted list for the 2018/19 season.
SWD’s top performer of the 2017/18 season, Obus Pienaar, again entered a contract with SWD. "Together with experienced players like Neil Hornbuckle, Brendon Louw, Marcello Piedt and Letlotle Sesele they will form the backbone of the team," said SWD Cricket CEO, Albertus Kennedy.
Tsepo Ndwandwa, who recently attended a spinners camp in India, was also maintained.
Mthobeli Bangingdawo from Thembalethu, the first local player who emerged via the Black African program, was also awarded for his performances as well as the SA u.19 player, Jean du Plessis.
New faces are Yamkela Oliphant, a wicket-keeper/batsman who emerged from the Fort Hare Academy in Alice and Kirwin Christoffels (from Eastern Province) – who represented the SA u.19 team and Stefan Tait (also from EP).
Two key players from the past season, Hanno Kotze (Boland) and Glenton Stuurman (Eastern Province), will leave the province.
Coach, Baakier Abrahams, will be in his second year of his three-year contract.
The entire squad are: Hershell Amerika, Bailey Aarons, Mthobeli Bangindawo, Kirwin Christoffels, Marco de Kock, Bradley de Villiers, Jean du Plessis, Neil Hornbuckle, Jaco Janse van Rensburg, Brendon Louw, Tsepo Ndwandwa, Yamkela Oliphant, Marcello Piedt, Obus Pienaar, Letlotle Sesele, Stefan Tait and Todd Walker.
