SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - The 3-day cricket match in the Sunfoil Competition between SWD and the North West Dragons, which was played at the REC Ground last weekend, ended in a draw after only 13 wickets fell over the three days.
SWD, who elected to bat after winning the toss, declared their first innings at close of play on day one at 385/7 (104 overs) at stumps.
Letlotlo Sesele (93; 163 balls, 12x4) and Daniel Sincuba (49) laid a solid foundation with a 107-runs partnership for the third wicket. Both Sesele and Sincuba were desperately unlucky not to reach their respective century and half-century landmarks.
The pair grafted in extremely hot conditions before Obus Pienaar (119*; 169 balls; 2x6, 14x4) and Hanno Kotzé (72; 74 balls, 1x6, 11x4) accelerated the run rate with a stand of 128 for the 5th wicket. Kotzé, who scored at almost a run a ball, achieved his highest first-class score. It was the 28-year-old Pienaar's eighth first-class century.
North West batted for 168 overs before they declared their first innings half-an-hour before tea on the final day at 569/6. The two captains immediately thereafter shook hands as the match ended in a draw.
For the Dragons, Janneman Malan (67), Isaac Dikgale (76), Richard Frenz (130), André Malan (151) and Ruan Haasbroek (59) were the top-scoring batsmen. Pienaar, who bowled 45 overs, was SWD's most successful bowler with 4/146.
