SOCCER NEWS - On Sunday afternoon, 22 June, the George Vultures' U13 development team spread their wings to beat the limping Western Tigers 2-1 in the final of the Geolfa Youth Day tournament at the Imizamo Yethu High School sports complex.
The tournament started at the Lawaaikamp Stadium on Saturday 14 June, with 12 teams competing for the crown.
George Vultures player Alutha Temo gave an exceptional performance, creating scoring opportunities inside the box.
The U13 final started on fire with both teams playing the ball on the ground. Ovayo Gqwetha of Western Tigers displayed great skill on attack. George Vultures scored both their goals in the first 15 minutes, seeing out the first half with a 2-0 advantage.
In the second half, Western Tigers players used their best ball skills looking for their first goal, and George Vultures were having a hard time defending their lead.
The Tigers were awarded with a penalty after a dangerous foul from the Vultures' backline and managed to turn it into a goal, making it 2-1.
Desperate to equalise, the Tigers put more pressure on the Vultures backline during the last minutes of the game, but did not manage to score again.
The thrilling juniors' final ended on 2-1, the Vultures taking home the Geolfa cup.
In the U15 final, the Silver Stars beat Vista 0(5)-0(4) on penalties.
