NATIONAL NEWS - A 12-year-old rugby player went into cardiac arrest on a rugby field at the Tuine Sport Klub in Pretoria yesterday.
According to the owner of the club, Jaco Olivier, the incident occurred right before practice.
“The player, who is part of the junior rugby club, went into cardiac arrest while running around the field.
“One of our coaches initiated CPR on the boy until emergency services arrived.”
Emergency Medical Service spokesperson Xander Loubser said they arrived on scene and took over from the coach, who had initiated CPR.
“The patient was defibrillated and CPR was resumed until he regained his own heartbeat.
“The child was revived and was airlifted shortly afterwards to hospital by NetCare911 HEMS.”
Loubser added that the assistance of the coach contributed to the successful outcome.
“We would like to thank the coach and Xander for his speedy response on scene,” said Olivier.
