NATIONAL NEWS - The Western Cape Tourism Department says that it is expecting a high number of visitors to the province over the festive season.
While this is great news for the economy, it means a higher demand for water and added pressure on existing resources.
Government officials, municipalities and tourism officers plan to host awareness events along the N2, N1 and N7 highways to share water saving messages with tourists and to share information about the drought crisis.
Economic Opportunities MEC Alan Winde says: “We’ll be handing out branded water sanitiser bottles, about 20,000 of them. We’ll be on the N2, N1 and N7. We will have radio adverts to ensure our hotels, B&Bs and guesthouses are also getting their messages across.”
