GEORGE NEWS - The Hawks in George have re-arrested Micheal Adriaan Janse van Rensburg (45) on Monday 20 May for charges of fraud and money laundering.
Van Rensburg was detained while appearing in court in Secunda, Mpumalanga, on an unrelated matter.
The charges stem from January 2021, when Van Rensburg allegedly defrauded complainants of R2 624 250.
According to a spokesperson for the Hawks, Lt Col Siyabulela Vukubi, the suspect has allegedly been enticing victims since 2021 to invest in his company, but the funds were misused for personal gain.
A financial investigation confirmed that Van Rensburg utilised the money for his own benefit.
He was initially arrested in February where he appeared in the George Magistrate's Court and was released on a warning. However, a warrant for his arrest was issued after he subsequently absconded.
Van Rensberg is scheduled to make his next court appearance in the George Regional Court later today, Friday 24 May.
