OUDTSHOORN NEWS - Oudtshoorn Municipality would like to inform residents of Dysselsdorp and areas supplied by the Klein Karoo Rural Water Supply Scheme (KKRWSS) that water shortages will occur in these areas due to ongoing operational challenges affecting the water supply system.
The current situation is mainly caused by Eskom power supply problems affecting the Vermaaks River boreholes, which form a critical part of the water supply to the area.
Due to the power interruptions, the Municipality is presently unable to abstract and pump sufficient water from the boreholes.
The situation is further aggravated by flood damage to the augmentation pipeline from the Blossoms wellfield. This pipeline was damaged during the recent flooding events and is currently unavailable to supplement the system.
As a result, available water supply is significantly reduced, and reservoir levels have declined drastically.
The Municipality has already commenced with the deployment of water tankers to assist affected communities as far as practically possible while emergency repair and operational measures are being implemented.
Residents are urgently requested to use water sparingly and only for essential domestic purposes. Any unnecessary water use should be avoided completely.
The Municipality apologises for the inconvenience and assures residents that all available resources are being utilised to restore and stabilise supply as quickly as possible.
