OUDTSHOORN NEWS - A truck transporting coal overturned at the Prins Alfred Pass between De Vlugt and Avontuur shortly after 14:00 today.
Two people were injured and were hospitalised. They are both in a stable condition.
Unfortunately the accident caused the surrounding mountainous area to catch fire. The fireline is approximately 2km long at the moment (8km from Avontuur).
No infrastructure is currently in danger because of the wind direction, however if the wind direction does change, two houses might be in danger.
Precautionary measures are in place to protect the houses.
Currently it is difficult to access the fire because of it being in the mountain, ongoing monitoring shall be done.
Weather prediction for the area is around 8 degrees celsius for Saturday, which might cause the fire to die.
Currently on scene are six Firefighters from Eden DM, two from George, two from MTO and two from SCFPA.
