OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The ANC regional secretary of the Southern Cape, Mzwanele "Major" Sokopo (42) and Ndileka Mfunda (49) from Port Elizabeth appeared in the George Magistrate's Court on Friday 17 August. No charges were read.
The case was postponed to Monday 8 October as all regional court magistrates in the Western Cape were at a meeting in Cape Town.
The R16-million fraud case involving the contravention of the Value Added Tax (VAT) Act against Sokopo and his co-accused Mfunda was struck off the court roll by magistrate Pragalathan Govender on 18 December 2017. At the time Govender said this was due to negligence on the part of the state as a result of the state not having its witnesses present at the trial.
Asked for comment Sokopo said, "I will be in court on the eighth of October."
