On 21 August 2012 the accused and his girlfriend’s 5 year old daughter were at their house in Newlands when he sexually assaulted her. On 11 December 2014 he raped her in the toilet.
The court also declared him unfit to possess a firearm and his name will be put in the national register for sex offenders.
In a second incident, 20-year-old Asanda May was sentenced in the Oudtshoorn Regional court to 20 years imprisonment after he was found guilty of rape.
On 21 February 2014 the 15 year old female victim and a female friend went to the accused’s house in Kwa Mandlenkosi. The accused took her to the bedroom, assaulted the victim, threatened her with a screwdriver and raped her.
The lengthy sentences handed down to both the accused is welcomed by Western Cape police provincial management.
Let it be seen as a warning to criminals that crimes committed against women and children cannot be perpetrated without severe punishment.
