OUDTSHOORN NEWS - Residents of the Greater Oudtshoorn municipal area continue to experience intermittent disruptions in prepaid electricity purchases as the Municipality’s appointed service provider works to stabilise its system.
According to Erna Wagenaar, acting spokesperson for the Oudtshoorn Municipality, SwitchOne Connect (Utilities World), the municipality’s prepaid electricity vending service provider, has confirmed that its vending system is still experiencing technical difficulties and may occasionally go offline.
Although residents were able to purchase prepaid electricity via banking applications and other vendors from early this morning, further interruptions may occur while the system processes accumulated transactions and clears the backlog.
Municipal cashier points at the Bridgton Office, Bongolethu Office and the Main Building remain fully operational and are assisting residents with prepaid electricity purchases.
In response to the outage, municipal cashier offices opened shortly after 20:00 on the evening of the disruption. Residents began arriving from 20:00, and staff continued assisting customers until 00:10 the following morning in an effort to provide additional support.
In Dysselsdorp, residents confirmed that small vendors were able to vend electricity this morning. However, the Municipal Office in Dysselsdorp is currently unable to assist due to damage to the High Site.
The Municipality has thanked residents for their patience and indicated that further updates will be communicated as more information becomes available.
