OUDTSHOORN NUUS - After Abraham Tiemie resigned earlier this year as ANC councillor and subsequently joined the Patriotic Alliance (PA), a by-election is scheduled for Wednesday 25 March in Ward 5 of the Oudtshoorn Municipality.
A total of five candidates will contest the by-election:
- Claudine Lukas - African National Congress (ANC)
- Mondo Charlton Williams - Greater Oudtshoorn Civic Association
- Grandville Baatjie - Independent Civic Organisation of South Africa
- Loretta Sharon Ryneveld - Patriotic Alliance (PA)
- Angelica Gerrollene Mobiley - Truth and Solidarity Movement
According to Michael Hendrickse, Provincial Electoral Officer for the Western Cape, there are 4,361 registered voters in the ward.
Voting will take place at:
- Sonskyhoeke Creche, 18th Avenue, Bridgton
- Bridgton Senior Secondary School, Berginstreet, Bridgton
- Smartie Town Creche, Reggie Olifant Street, Smartie Town
Hendrickse encouraged all eligible voters in Ward 5 to participate and exercise their constitutional right to vote.
He also called on political parties, candidates, party agents, and supporters to uphold the Electoral Code of Conduct, ensuring the by-election is peaceful, free, and fair.
"It is important for everyone involved to respect the process and contribute to a safe and transparent election," Hendrickse said.
