Family in mourning
Mduma's cousin, Zandi Mduma, shared that he visited him on Saturday evening around 18:00 before leaving to see his girlfriend.
"We do not know where he went after that."
Zandi said that he wasn't concerned that he didn't come home the next day. "He sometimes didn't come home for days at a time, so his behavior over the weekend wasn't strange to us."
On Sunday, police visited the family with a photo of Mziwonke, confirming his identity.
His mother, Zoliswa Mduma, said she was deeply saddened by her son's death, but that the news has not sunk in yet. She said the family is awaiting the completion of a post-mortem examination before making funeral arrangements.
Police continue to appeal to the public for assistance in solving this case.
